Eau Claire (WQOW) – City leaders are going back to the drawing board to find a suitable partner to fill the Block 7 lot and Liner Site.

That is near the new parking ramp.

Pablo Properties informed the city’s redevelopment authority on Wednesday that they have decided not to move forward with plans to construct downtown buildings that would house office space, retail, the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire and maybe a grocery store.

The company cited rising construction costs as one of the reasons.

Eau Claire Economic Development Director Aaron White said while it is disappointing, he believes other developers are still interested in the site.

“They are both attractive sites, very good locations, in a very attractive and growing portion of the community,” White said. “So, I expect to see a lot of interest continue.”

White said they have been getting calls already from other interested developers. The Eau Claire Redevelopment Authority (RDA) will ask them to submit proposals, and city staff will make a recommendation to the RDA which has final pick.
