Eau Claire (WQOW) – If you have been to the Eau Claire County Courthouse in the past few days you have likely noticed the new security measures in place.

You will now have to go through secure screenings to get into the courtrooms and other offices on the second floor.

Officials said many surrounding counties have these measures which work similarly to TSA checks, including emptying your pockets, but you can keep your shoes on.

Everyone visiting the courthouse, with county employees as the exception, will have to use this new secure entrance.

“The county board ultimately made a decision to be preemptive versus reactive to courthouse screening and security issues, so that is why you now see the courthouse screening process the way it is today,” said Captain Dan Bresina with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office.

This week is a test run of the new security scanner. The long-term enforcement begins July 1.

Bresina said so far things have been working smoothly, but anyone visiting the courthouse should allow extra time just in case they get backed up.
