Eau Claire (WQOW) – Thousands of young soccer players have descended on Eau Claire, all going for gold.
Eau Claire United Soccer Club is hosting its 23rd annual tournament. In all, 130 teams and more than 5,000 participants and spectators are expected to be here from across the Midwest.
The tournament director said the tournament provides a nice boost for the local economy.
“We tie with the city for concessions here, but we also want to engage the community and provide a opportunity to some of the local businesses in the area,” said Doug Morosky, tournament director. “So, through sponsorship and vendor supplies, they come in and line up along basically the sidewalk here, we have food trucks, Jimmy John’s, and delivery.”
The tournament got underway on Friday and will run through Sunday.
