Eau Claire (WQOW)- It was a nice day Thursday for kids to burn some energy at the park, and while your kids are running around police want to remind you to keep an eye on them.

If something bad happens at the park it would happen quickly when parents are distracted said Eau Claire Police Officer Josh Miller. That’s why he said it’s important to keep track of your kids while they’re having fun.

Miller said Eau Claire is pretty safe, but occasionally they have parents calling wanting someone checked on or looked into.

He said if something doesn’t seem right or someone is causing a disturbance you should call police.

“Making sure that they kids know the rules that they’re not supposed to talk to strangers they’re not supposed to wander off,” Miller said. “For parents just to stay vigilant, it’s easy to get distracted on days like today especially, but as long as you’re keeping your kids in eyesight and they kind of know the rules on what to do they should be fine.”

Miller said it’s also important to remember the parks are only open from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m.

If you’re caught at the park while it’s closed, you could be looking at a citation of over $200.
