Eau Claire (WQOW) – State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski was in Eau Claire Friday, sharing the importance of financial literacy with area students.

Godlewski read to students at Meadowview Elementary School. She was once a student there herself.

Senator Jeff Smith and Representative Jody Emerson accompanied the treasurer.

While Godlewski’s message to the kids was focused on their futures, she wants the people of Eau Claire to focus on financial literacy.

“Financial literacy is something we should never stop doing. Not just in elementary school, in middle school, but also when someone has a child or they get married,” Godlewski said. “Retirement is actually a really big issue with financial literacy, and so this is something we’re talking about. We want to integrate it throughout our life, and starting to save now is something that can make a big difference in people’s lives later on.”

Godlewski is also part of a task force looking for solutions to the student loan debt crisis.

She also mad a stop at Northstar Middle School to visit with students there.
