New class offered for families and friends of addicts

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – The Coulee Council on Addiction is offering a new class for family and friends of someone suffering from addiction.

The class is for people with a loved one who is struggling through stages of addiction recovery. It will begin on May 16 and continue every Thursday until June 27. Classes run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Coulee Recovery Center.

“There is a lot of compassion that is shown,” Executive Director of the Coulee Council on Addiction Cheryl Hancock said. “But it’s also comfort in knowing that you aren’t alone in this experience, and that other people are going through the same thing.”

The class is based on the book Get your Loved One Sober: Alternatives to Nagging, Pleading and Threatening.  It is designed to teach people ways of dealing with an addict in a more positive way. The class fee is included with book purchase. It is not too late to sign up by calling the Coulee Council on Addiction number at (608) 784-4177.
