Chippewa County (WQOW) – A Cadott man charged with killing his passenger in a crash in 2018 has reached a plea deal.

Mavrick Kolpien is charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle for the crash that killed his passenger, Zachary Evanson.

According to the criminal complaint, Kolpien made a sharp u-turn into a bar parking lot when his vehicle was hit by an oncoming car.

Kolpien told deputies he had consumed four mixed drinks and two beers before the crash, and had smoked some pot.

Wednesday, he pleaded no contest to one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, in exchange for another count being read-in and dismissed.

He faces 40 years in prison at his sentencing in July.
