UPDATE

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Eau Claire fire officials responded to a structure fire on Runway Ave in Eau Claire Sunday.

A fire started in the right unit of the duplex. Luckily nobody was home at the time, except for a cat. Unfortunately, officials said the cat didn’t make it.

When crews arrived, they reported heavy smoke and flames coming from a window on the right side of the duplex just before 4 p.m. Because nobody was home at the time, the fire grew and spread to the attic.

Officials said they were able to remove some important belongings, but some belongings were destroyed by the flames. Both sides of the duplex are being rented. The left side of the duplex sustained a light amount of smoke.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, as Eau Claire fire officials investigate.
