Eau Claire (WQOW)- An Eau Claire resident had more than water in her backyard . She said a sinkhole has formed, and she wants the city to do something about it before it gets bigger.
Barbara Joyce said Thursday her husband found the sinkhole, and they notified the city.
She said city staff put flags around the hole, but it’s only gotten bigger, and even swallowed one of the flags
Joyce’s backyard isn’t the only one disappearing. Her neighbors have two sinkholes.
They believe the cause of the problem is a storm sewer that runs through her backyard.
Joyce said city officials should be stopping by in the next few days to fill in the hole, but for now, she’s worried about the safety of her family.
“We have grandchildren playing here,” Joyce said. “I can’t allow the grandchildren in the yard, actually no one should be walking in the yard because the ground just drops out.”
Joyce said city officials aren’t sure how deep the sink hole is, but they think the sewer pipe is 14 feet down and six feet in diameter.
She said until the problem is fixed she plans to avoid the backyard.
