Eau Claire (WQOW) — Those helped by The Community Table will be able to worry less about how they’ll get there, thanks to a partnership with Eau Claire Transit.
The Community Table and Eau Claire Transit are now providing year-round bus passes, so people can ride to and from The Community Table, during meals hours, for free. Previously, the pass had only been seasonal, meaning it was good November through March.
Officials behind the partnership told News 18 transportation can be a significant barrier for those who rely on The Community Table’s services.
“This hopefully is going to be transformative to individuals who don’t have any access to food, or happen to live in a food desert or outside of the downtown area to be able to provide that transportation to get that free, hot, nutritious meal,” said Michelle Koehn, executive director of The Community Table.
Transit Manager for the City of Eau Claire Tom Wagener added this is what public transportation is all about, getting people where they need to go.
The passes are available at The Community Table, WIC and ADRC offices, along with some Eau Claire Area Schools.
