Barron County (WQOW) – A Minnesota deputy caught in a sex sting in Barron County has pleaded guilty to two of the counts against him.

Prosecutors say Jeffrey Masek exchanged over 500 text messages with an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old girl.

He was arrested in April when police say he showed up in Rice Lake to have sex with her. He was placed on leave from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office that same month.

Wednesday he pleaded guilty to child enticement and attempted 2nd degree sexual assault of a child. A count of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime was read in, but dismissed.

Masek faces up to 65 years in prison at his sentencing in May.
