Eau Claire County standoff suspect sentenced

Eau Claire County (WQOW) – An Eau Claire man accused of shooting Eau Claire officers with a BB gun last January will spend time behind bars.

Emmitt Ritter-Simpson is accused of firing 50 to 75 rounds from a pellet gun at responding officers, hitting three, during a standoff in January.

Police said he also booby trapped the home with explosives.

While in custody, Ritter-Simpson also allegedly tried to kill a jailer.

He pleaded guilty to seven of the 19 charges against him in January.

Monday, Judge John Manydeeds sentenced Ritter-Simpson to eight years behind bars followed by 10 years of extended supervision.

He is also ordered not to possess any weapons including BB guns, and is ordered to undergo anger management and a mental assessment.
