Barron County (WQOW) – Elizabeth Smart, a now 31-year-old woman, knows all too well what it is like to be abducted at a young age. Now, nearly five months since Jayme Closs went missing, we are learning Smart is coming to Barron.

Smart will be the guest speaker at an event at the Barron Area Community Center on March 15. That date is five months to the day since Closs went missing. Closs escaped her alleged abductor Jake Patterson on January 10.

Smart was abducted from her Salt Lake City home when she was 14 back in 2002. She was rescued nine months later.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said doors open at 6 p.m. on March 15. The event is from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and it is free to attend.
