Eau Claire County (WQOW) – The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating after police shot and killed a man between Augusta and Fairchild Saturday.
According to a press release from the DOJ, an Eau Claire County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a report of a suspicious person just before noon Saturday. The Augusta Police Department also responded to the location on Kempton Road. Upon arrival, the deputy and officer were confronted by an agitated man.
While officers tried to gain control of the suspect, he began fighting with law enforcement and a struggle ensued. Officers tried to use less-than-lethal means but were unsuccessful. The man was subsequently shot by law enforcement.
Officers immediately began life-saving measures on scene but were unsuccessful.
An Augusta police officer and an Eau Claire County sheriff’s deputy have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is department policy.
DOJ officials said both departments have been fully cooperating in the investigation.
