Altoona (WQOW) – Soon you could start seeing pedal pubs in Altoona!

Pedal pubs, or quadricycles, are multi-seat vehicles that fit 12 to 16 people. Each person sits on a bicycle seat, pedaling to push it forward, often with drink in hand.

Altoona Management Analyst Roy Atkinson said 44 North is interested in purchasing a pedal pub, but needs the city’s approval first.

Right now, there’s an advisory meeting to discuss creating an ordinance that would deal with permitting alcohol, hours of operation, and possible routes.

“44 North is discussing a potential route within River Prairie,” Atkinson said. “They also have another route they’re prospectively looking at which would go into the city on Oakleaf Way on 10th Street West and on Spooner Avenue. There are a couple different options that are being proposed.”

Atkinson said a few years ago, Chippewa Falls decided against allowing pedal pubs, so if Altoona approves the plan, it would be the first pedal pub in the Chippewa Valley.
