(WQOW) – Representative Ron Kind (D-WI-03) thinks his new legislation will help out the craft beverage industry in Wisconsin and the rest of the country.

On Wednesday, Kind introduced the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act. The goal of the measure is to make permanent lower excise taxes and reduce regulations for craft wineries, distilleries, and breweries. A temporary measure is already in place. This new legislation would continue that.

“Here in Wisconsin, our craft brewers produce over one million barrels of beer a year. Not only are our breweries a source of pride and a large part of our state’s culture, but they also support our local economies and create jobs,” said Kind in a statement.

His office said that in the Third Congressional District, the beer industry contributes over 8,000 jobs and more  than $1 billion to the state’s economy. The craft brewing industry has an economic impact of over $2 billion annually in Wisconsin according to Kind’s office.

A companion bill was introduced in the Senate as well.
