Body shops backed up as damaged vehicles keep piling up

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Body shops are scrambling to fix cars just as a fast as they’re coming in.

Suzen Hong, damage appraiser at Superior Auto Body, said this is an odd year for them. She said a lot of people need fixes thanks to the snow and ice.

However, the weather itself isn’t the biggest issue.

The freeze and snowstorms caused a lot of companies to suspend delivery. A lot of necessary auto parts aren’t getting to the shop fast enough, so mechanics are falling behind.

“Right now, we’re behind,” Hong said. “We’ve got a lot of cars, a lot of tow-ins. Right now, just with the tow facilities, we’re about a week behind getting vehicles into the shop. So, the worst, as far as repairs are going, are yet to come.”

Hong said anybody who gets in a major crash right now wouldn’t get on their list because they are so backed up.

She believes they may be backlogged until March.
