Speed assessment to be done on Bloomer intersection following fatal crash

Chippewa County (WQOW) — Changes may be coming to an intersection in Bloomer, but not exactly what a petition was asking for.

News 18 previously reported a petition on change.org was hoping for a roundabout at the corner of Highway 64 and Highway 40 after a fatal crash last month.

Chippewa County Highway Commissioner Brian Kelley told News 18 the County Traffic Safety Commission met to discuss what could be done to reduce accidents there.

Kelley said a roundabout was not a popular option, instead the commission is considering extra signage on the stop signs that will say “Cross Traffic Does Not Stop”, and the DOT will do a speed study to see if the speed limit should be changed.
