South Dakota man avoids jail time after trying to set up sex with Altoona teen

Eau Claire County (WQOW) – A South Dakota man accused of trying to set up a sexual encounter with a minor in Altoona was sentenced to probation.

In December 2017, Alex Bawek responded to a Craigslist ad from a 14-year-old girl, but it was actually an Altoona police officer.

He was arrested when he tried to meet the girl for sex.

Thursday, Judge Michael Schumacher sentenced Bawek to five years of probation with a six-month jail sentenced stayed – meaning he will not serve time behind bars if he stays out of trouble.

He is also ordered to register as a sex offender.
