Eau Claire (WQOW) – Two women’s lives were changed in an instant with new cars Thursday, all thanks to the people in their lives who nominated them for Morrie’s Mazda’s 60 Days Of Giving.
Abby Schroeder was crying tears of joy when she learned she had won a new car. Her mom had nominated her. “Cool, so I just get to take it then?” she laughed.
Last month, veteran James Heber was surprised with a new car. Well, someone else also gifted him a new one, so he gave this one back to Morrie’s, wanting it to go to someone who needs it.
Abby has turned her life around. She’s celebrating seven years sober after battling addiction. “There’s hope for everyone no matter who you are or how old you are, or where you’ve been, or where you come from,” she said. “Life is really short so just do the things you love to do and reach out to help when you need it, like don’t be afraid to get help.”
Now she goes to grad school in Minnesota, so she can someday help others fighting addiction. To get there though, she’s driving more than four hours a day. This new car will change her life. “Going through some pretty heavy things and getting to really low places in my life you know with addiction disorder myself and coming close to death and getting through it… and just not being afraid of who I am. It’s been quite the journey.”
Sarah Sturtz knows a thing or two about tough journeys. Her oldest daughter was diagnosed with cancer last year. Her entire office nominated her for the new car.
She said her current vehicle is falling apart, and she needs reliable transportation to get her daughter to chemo treatments in Rochester. “This new car will help ease my mind getting back and forth to Rochester, I’m not sure how much longer my other car was going to last,” Sarah said. “Oh my God I am so appreciative.”
