Eau Claire (WQOW) – Some lucky parents celebrated the arrival of a new baby that waited to make her debut until the new year.

Magdalena Ortiz was born at 4:28 a.m. on New Year’s Day at Marshfield Medical Center- Eau Claire making her the first baby born in Eau Claire this year.

She made her debut weighing in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces and 20 1/2 inches long.

Her mother Jessica Ortiz from Lake Hallie said she was an early surprise. They weren’t expecting her to arrive until January 11.

This is Jessica’s second child and she said they’ve been getting their four-year-old prepared for the new addition to the family.

“We’ve been doing a lot of working, getting ready for the new baby and trying to get her ready for the change in the family,” Ortiz said.

Ortiz said it makes her really happy to see her first child excited to be a big sister.

While Magdalena was the first baby born in Eau Claire, Penelope Brinkman came in second over at Mayo Clinic Health System. Brinkman was born at 12:52 p.m.
