Altoona (WQOW) – Chippewa Valley residents were urged to give the gift of life on Thursday.

The American Red Cross held its second 12 Hours of Giving Blood Drive.

Organizers said donations tend to be down this time of year because of the holidays and people spending time with family and traveling.

Staff with the Red Cross said they’re always looking for donations of any blood type.

“Whether if someone’s sick and needs units everyday or if there’s a tragic accident with the roads and weather. You never know what’s going to happen and we need that blood on hand,” said Megan Geroux, donor recruitment manager for the American Red Cross. “I would just say come in, check us out, see what’s going on. You can watch someone donate if you want to and then can kind of decide from there, or bring someone with you and donate with someone.”

As a thank you, donors were given some gifts from the Red Cross and entered to win prizes from local businesses.
