Eau Claire (WQOW) – An Eau Claire man faces charges after he missed a planned meetup with an undercover cop posing as a young girl, because a citizen group was undercover too and confronted him.

David Frey, 33, is charged with child enticement, using a computer for a child sex crime and five counts of child pornography.

According to the criminal complaint, an officer posing as a 14-year-old girl exchanged messages with Frey for about three weeks, including explicit photos from Frey.

The officer said at one point Frey replied, “I’m kind of scared to meet, cuz you’re 14 and I’m afraid this is all a trap like that one show.”

Police said November 22 they were making plans to meet, but Frey stopped responding.

A detective said he later learned a citizen group called World Wide Predator Hunters was also talking to Frey, posing as a young girl, making plans to meet. He did show up to that meeting where members of the group confronted him.

When police talked to Frey, they found child porn on his cell phone.

If found guilty on all charges, he a faces a possible 190-year sentence.

His next court appearance is January 17.

Weather Outlook: Finally! More sunshine this weekend

The fog and clouds lifted late Friday morning, and that meant the sun finally shined brightly for much of the day. While it doesn’t have a lot of power this time of year given we’re only a week away from the winter solstice, it still helped warm us into the mid 30s.
