Eau Claire Army Reserve’s 397th Engineer Battalion moving to California

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Twelve full-time engineers with the 397th Engineer Battalion are relocating to another reserve in Marina, California.

Reserve staff said the reason is there is a shortage of Army Reserve engineers in California. The Army Reserve will still have a presence on Keith Street in Eau Claire as a Quartermaster company; this means there will be various logistical operations going on, such a distribution of Army equipment, physical training and qualifying weapons.

The 150 part-time reservists will not have to perform their weekend duties at other various locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

“Making sure that certain companies are evenly dispersed within the nation is important. So, If you have an abundance of engineers in one area it takes time for them to travel somewhere else, kind of like with other reserves in the National Guard, they might have to travel for a natural disaster relief, and things like that. So, if they are it easily dispersed throughout the nation it makes it a lot easier,” said Tyler Garrey, battalion readiness NCO.

The 397th will be holding a final ceremony on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Weather Outlook: Finally! More sunshine this weekend

The fog and clouds lifted late Friday morning, and that meant the sun finally shined brightly for much of the day. While it doesn’t have a lot of power this time of year given we’re only a week away from the winter solstice, it still helped warm us into the mid 30s.
