Eau Claire (WQOW)- Soon you could be seeing more roundabouts in Eau Claire.

Eau Claire City Engineer David Solberg said they’re considering adding roundabouts at four intersections on State Street: Roosevelt Avenue in the Third Ward, East Lexington Boulevard, MacArthur Avenue and Hamilton Avenue.

Solberg said they need to replace some pavement on State Street, so it’d be cheaper to add the traffic circles during that project.

He said it’d also improve safety. Roundabouts help calm traffic, and they’re better for pedestrians, he said.

“With roundabouts, it does improve pedestrian safety,” Solberg said. “It cuts down the distance that a pedestrian has to cross with traffic going through.”

Solberg said all the work would cost $2 million.

City officials are hosting open houses to talk about the projects, and get the public’s opinion.

He said if the open houses go well, they plan to present the plans to the city council at the end of January.

The next open house is Thursday. For more information on it click here.

Weather Outlook: Finally! More sunshine this weekend

The fog and clouds lifted late Friday morning, and that meant the sun finally shined brightly for much of the day. While it doesn’t have a lot of power this time of year given we’re only a week away from the winter solstice, it still helped warm us into the mid 30s.
