Eau Claire (WQOW) — Christmas will be here before you know it. If you still need a Christmas tree and can’t afford one, a local organization is here to help.

Dave Zien, part of the Christmas Tree Free Project, said they have 152 white spruce trees that arrived Friday. They will be giving them out starting Saturday morning on Menomonie Street near the former Dairy Queen.

Zien said the trees are free, but donations are welcome. He said all of the money donated will go to the Chippewa Veterans Home.

Zien said it’s important for everyone who wants one, to get a tree for the holidays.

“The average cost of a Christmas tree in the United States of America is $77, people cannot afford that,” Zien said. “They do not deserve to be punished and penalized because they cannot afford a tree. They can have them for free.”

Zien said you can come out anytime up until Christmas and get a tree. They’re also offering free tree deliveries within a 100 mile radius of Eau Claire.

Weather Outlook: Gloomy weather returns

Today was the warmest day of the month with high temperatures in the low to mid 40s across western Wisconsin. The only other days this month in the 40s were this past Saturday and Sunday. While temperatures will be in the upper 30s near 40 again tomorrow afternoon, it won’t be as nice of a day.
