Eau Claire (WQOW)- Gas prices are dropping, just in time for the holidays.
Senior Petroleum Analyst at Gas Buddy Dan McTeague told News 18 we’re seeing gas prices drop for two reasons. One being the price of oil has dropped over the past five weeks.
The other reason is because refineries that were getting maintenance done weren’t able to provide gas, and now that they’re out of maintenance there’s more supply.
Gas prices around Eau Claire are anywhere from $2.59 to $2.75 a gallon. That’s about 35 cents lower than when gas was its highest on Memorial Day weekend, at $2.97.
“Prices are not just dropping, but they’re going to drop likely a lot further over the next several days,”McTeague said. “If you don’t like today’s prices, by all means take your time, buy what you need today because over the next several days it’s likely we’ll see prices drop another five, perhaps even as much as 10 cents a gallon.”
McTeague said we can also expect to see a small drop in December and January, but after that prices will go back up.
