Kathy Bernier joins the WI Senate, wins District 23 seat

(WQOW) – In the state Senate, Republicans aimed to hang onto their majority – while Democrats hoped to ride a blue-wave to retake control.

Coming into the night, Republicans held a three-seat advantage, 18-15.

The District 23 seat is open after Senator Terry Moulton announced his retirement.

State Representative Kathy Bernier and ER doctor Chris Kapsner were on the ballot and Bernier has been declared the winner.

Bernier has served in the Assembly since 2010. She said by every significant measure, the state is headed in the right direction.
