Sex offenders must follow Halloween rules

Eau Claire (WQOW)- Registered sex offenders aren’t allowed to participate in Halloween, but authorities said it’s still important to know where they are in your area.

Offenders who are under Department of Corrections supervision aren’t allowed to decorate for Halloween, pass out candy or even have their exterior lights on.

Department of Corrections Field Supervisor in Eau Claire Mike Felton said offenders must stay in their homes one hour before trick-or-treating begins and an hour after.

Felton said officers do random checks to make sure the rules are being followed, and if they’re not they could be arrested.

If you notice a sex offender has their porch light on, or is outside, you can call the toll free number at 1-877-234-0085 to report.
