Neighborhood app helps kids with allergies trick-or-treat safely

Eau Claire (WQOW) — Halloween is just five days away, and there’s an app helping you keep your kids safe while trick-or-treating this year.

The Nextdoor App is a neighborhood app that helps you connect to those in your area, and for Halloween, it’s a bit easier for you to find out which houses can cater to your child’s allergies.

The Eau Claire Police Department posted the above photo on its Facebook page, showing houses marked in the app for handing out candy, and specifically allergy-free treats. Officials told News 18 this type of map provides an added sense of security for parents.

“I think it can really help improve the safety of Halloween because you’ll have a game plan before you go of what houses you’re going to go to, what streets you’re going to be on, and have a general view of your neighborhood ahead of time,” said Bridget Coit, with Eau Claire police.

Something else parents can look for this Halloween is teal pumpkins. Houses with those will be handing out allergy tree treats for your kids.
