Eau Claire (WQOW) – A forum series is touching on homelessness in Eau Claire Thursday night, as award-winning journalists engage with the community during the “Beyond the Headlines” event.

The “Building Trust: Eau Claire’s Journalists Engage on Poverty” is an interactive forum event. Emcee, and reporter for the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram Julian Emerson told News 18 the importance of this event is the positive connection between people of Eau Claire with its news community, so they can learn from each other.

“How do we tell stories that matter, how do we cover issues, how do we be fair to everybody? How do we avoid stereotypes, especially when dealing with some issues like poverty? I think that’s important for us to think about, and then try and learn how to keep doing it better,” Emerson said.

At the forum, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists and a panel of journalism experts will join in the discussion, and attendees are able to ask them questions about journalism and poverty in Eau Claire.

The event is from 6-9 p.m. at the Pablo Center in Eau Claire. It is free to attend.
