Eau Claire (WQOW) — Do you remember getting up on Saturday mornings, running downstairs to the TV where your favorite cartoon was playing? It’s likely you were watching a cartoon animated by Ron Campbell, who happened to be in Eau Claire Tuesday.
Ron Campbell is best known for his work on ‘The Beatles’ TV series, as well as the animated film ‘Yellow Submarine.’
“I could tell you all of the shows that I’ve been involved with, either as a producer, director or animator, but it would take me 50 years to tell you all of them,” Campbell said.
From ‘The Flintstones’ to ‘The Jetsons’, even ‘Rugrats’ and ‘Ed, Edd and Eddie’, Campbell has worked on all of them. He told News 18 trying to grasp the concept behind the ‘Tom and Jerry’ cartoons is what got him into animation.
“I told my great grandmother about it, and she said ‘Ronny they’re just cartoons, just cartoons?’ You mean I can do drawings that can come alive? That was like an epiphany for a seven-year-old,” Campbell said.
Even in his retirement, Campbell is proud people are still enjoying his work.
“I never did get up in the morning and said I’ve got to go to work. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve done,” Campbell added.
Campbell will be at B-Framed on Barstow Street downtown from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. You can meet him yourself, check out his work and even purchase a Campbell original.
