Fallen Spring Valley Firefighter honored at memorial service in Maryland

(WQOW) – Terry Shafer, a Wisconsin fallen firefighter, was honored on Sunday in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Shafer was a firefighter for the Spring Valley Fire Department.

He died last February at the age of 62, after suffering from a heart attack hours after responding to a call.

The National Fallen Firefighters added Shafer to the Memorial on the Academy grounds in Emmitsburg. Shafer is among the 80 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2017 and 23 firefighters who died in previous years.

The tribute is sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Fire Administration.
