Bloomer man charged after deaths of baby goats

Chippewa County (WQOW) – A Bloomer man is facing up to nine months in prison after the majority of his 50 goats died.

Daniel Jacob Cosgrove, 20, is charged with mistreating animals and timely disposition of carcasses – both misdemeanors.

According to the criminal complaint, Cosgrove bought 50 goats in 2017, some as young as one week old. The majority of them ended up dying.

Cosgrove told police he got in over his head and the goats weren’t fed properly. He also admitted he didn’t provide the means to keep the goats warm as needed.

When the goats died, Cosgrove allegedly threw the carcasses into a manure pile, which is not keeping with state statute. An investigator counted at least 20 kid goats deceased in the manure pile.

Cosgrove is due back in court the end of November.
