One killed, another hospitalized in St. Croix Co. crash

St. Croix County (WQOW) – One man is dead and another is in the hospital after a crash in St. Croix County Thursday.

According to the sheriff’s office, Joshua Derrick, 27, from New Richmond was driving east on Highway G when he failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by a vehicle driving north on Highway 63 just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Derrick’s vehicle came to a stop on the road, while the other vehicle rolled into the ditch and came to a rest on its roof.

Derrick was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.

The sun, which was rising, may have been a factor, according to the sheriff’s office.

Highway 63 was closed for about five hours while the crash was investigated.

This is the seventh traffic fatality of 2018 in St. Croix County.
