Altoona (WQOW) – A local restaurant is donating its profits to help local kids in need.

You can head to Altoona Family Restaurant for the Kids N’ Cops fundraiser. It goes until 8 p.m.

The restaurant is donating 100 percent of its proceeds to the cause, which will be used later this year by Eau Claire County law enforcement to help underprivileged children. Every year they take them on a shopping trip to Target.

On Monday, law enforcement said this event is more than just a fundraiser.

“Interacting with the community, having those conversations,” said Lt. Cory Schalinske, with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office. “Showing the community that law enforcement cares. We’re human, we are part of the community and obviously on the day of shopping with the children, seeing how excited that they get, seeing that they will be warm for the winter, that’s very special.

This is the 27th year of the Kids N’ Cops program.

Last year they raised nearly $24,000.

Weather Outlook: Finally! More sunshine this weekend

The fog and clouds lifted late Friday morning, and that meant the sun finally shined brightly for much of the day. While it doesn’t have a lot of power this time of year given we’re only a week away from the winter solstice, it still helped warm us into the mid 30s.
