A new theater company focuses on mentoring teens

Eau Claire (WQOW) – A new theater company, TAG Family Theater Company (Taking Action for God), opened up in town. TAG staff said they do focus on acting, but also want to create a safe space for teens to express themselves.

Natalya Bartelt, musical director for TAG, said Calvary Baptist Church is helping TAG get on its feet by allowing TAG to use their auditorium for rehearsal. Bartelt said TAG hopes to one day have their own non-profit facility. Bartelt said what’s unique about TAG is the mentorship to teens along with acting, as she has personally noticed many teens do not have positive adults in their life and having an older role model can make the world of difference in a young person’s life.

“In this world now, a lot of bad ways to express emotions or lack of ways to express emotions, and that becomes destructive for young people. So, by giving them theater and beautiful stories, and stories that are family-friendly, good stories give them a way to release those emotions in a super healthy and positive way that can influence other people for good,” said Bartelt.

TAGs next performance ‘When Night Met the Day’ will be on November 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. and 17 at 3 p.m.
