2 from Chetek killed in Barron Co. crash

Barron County (WQOW) – Two people from Chetek are dead after crashing on Highway 53 Sunday morning.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said a car driven by Mathew Krear, 28, of Chetek, crossed the Highway 53 median and hit a semi hauling liquid oxygen head-on north of Haugen.

Krear and his passenger, Morgan Lasley, 20, also from Chetek, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was treated and released on scene.

No oxygen was released in the crash. Highway 53 was closed for about two hours.
