1 killed, 2 others seriously injured in Polk Co. crash

Polk County (WQOW) – One person is dead and two others are in the hospital after a crash in Polk County Thursday evening.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened on County Road I in the town of Balsam Lake Thursday right before 7 p.m.

The investigation shows Valerie Church, 60, of rural Luck was driving a Dodge Journey east on I when she crossed the center line and hit a another vehicle driven by Bryce Carlson, 31, of Burnsville MN, head-on.

Both vehicles had passengers.

James Church, 57, of Luck was in the vehicle with Valerie. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

Carlson also had a passenger – Whitney Pederson, 21, of rural Cushing WI.

Valerie Church and and Pederson were both taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with serious injuries.

Heavy rain is believed to be a factor in the crash.
