Chippewa Valley Family YMCA now offers aqua yoga

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) – You may have heard of glow-in-the-dark yoga, hot yoga, and even goat yoga, but have you ever heard of aqua yoga? Well, now the Chippewa Valley Family YMCA is offering it.

The Chippewa YMCA is now offering classes where you can do yoga, while floating on the water. The classes began after a member of the YMCA made a donation to purchase eight floating yoga pads. The aqua yoga instructor at the YMCA said it’s similar to land yoga. Participants will do similar poses, but floating on the water makes it more challenging. The benefits are more core and leg strength, but that’s not the only benefits instructors are seeing.

“I love the fact that people, when they do come, although they might be a little bit scared at first, you can see the more they take the class, the more confident they feel and comfortable they feel,” said Carolyn Thomas, instructor at the YMCA. “Then, the more they’re able to encourage maybe a new person who is attending.”

The YMCA plans to expand their aqua yoga classes to school sports teams. YMCA staff said it would be a great opportunity for cross training.
