Altoona (WQOW) — County Highway KB is getting a facelift, but the Altoona Elementary School along the same road is having to make some changes of its own along with it.
The road work from the intersection of 3rd Street East to Walden Court is expected to take five weeks, blocking the route many take to get their kids to school.
School officials say parents and buses are being rerouted to come to Altoona Elementary from County Highway SS or Lake Road. Along with reconstructing the road’s infrastructure the long-awaited KB trail will be added.
“The trail is good for the community, not just for the school, but there are people who come out here on the weekends, kids come and use our playground, there are a lot of walkers, runners and bikers, and it’ll just be a safer atmosphere for them,” said Michael Markgren, business manager for the Altoona School District.
Markgren also told News 18 the construction may be an inconvenience right now, but the end result will be worth it.
Also, the City of Altoona wants to remind drivers that only businesses and residents in the construction area are allowed access, non-locals could face tickets.
