Sawyer County authorities try to determine who put deflation spikes on roads

Sawyer County (WQOW) – The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating incidents where metal tire deflation spikes, also called “caltrops” have been found in the town of Winter.

Sheriff Douglas Mrotek said several vehicles have sustained tire damage from running over the spikes. The spikes are two-inch spikes welded together and sharpened on four ends.

The sheriff’s office is asking that anyone who might have information about the devices, or who put them out, to contact them at 715-634-5213, or submit information through a tip line here
