Chippewa County (WQOW) – Chippewa County boaters found the body of an elderly man Tuesday afternoon.

Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalcyzk said the body was found on Otter Lake north of Stanley around 1:30 p.m.

Kowalcyzk said boaters came across a unoccupied pontoon that was anchored. They told deputies that they saw a man fishing there earlier in the day, and when they investigated further, they found the body of the man.

Kowalcyzk said the victim was an 83 year old man from Holcombe. They believe he had some sort of medical emergency, which caused him to fall into the water.

The Chippewa County coroner pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Kowalcyzk said the DNR is handling the investigation and they expect more information to be released on Wednesday.
