Community grieves Loyal family who died in kayaking accident

LOYAL, Wis. (WAOW) – It was an emotional Saturday morning in Loyal as the community came together to remember a family that lost their lives nearly two weeks ago.

Eric Fryman and his three kids all perished in a kayaking accident on Lake Superior with just their mom Cari Mews the surviving.

News 9 was not inside the services held at the Loyal High School but hundreds headed in with heavy hearts to pay respects to the family.

According to their obituaries, 9-year-old Annaliese loved school, 5-year-old Kyra was former Miss Little Loyal and 3-year-old Jansen loved riding on a scooter.

The three of them along with their father 39-year-old Eric Fryman were all laid to rest.

“The family would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming support, kind thoughts and prayers that they received during this difficult time in their lives,” said Scott Haines a spokesperson for the family. “They ask everyone to continue their prayers as they begin their healing process.”

The family was vacationing on Madeline Island when their boat capsized after the wind picked up.

The family was trying to swim to Michigan Island when Cari got separated, she was found by herself on the island.

The family has donation funds set up for Cari at Partners Bank locations in Spencer and Marshfield in the family’s name.
