Local chef competes on Food Network’s “Guy’s Grocery Games”

Hixton (WQOW) – Wednesday night, a local chef made her debut on a Food Network competition show. Amy Huo owns the Chippewa Valley food truck, Locavore Mobile Kitchen. After turning down an invitation three times to be on ‘Guy’s Grocery Games‘, this fourth time, she said yes.

In the show, four chefs compete for up to $20,000, by testing their culinary skills in a grocery store. The shows are themed. In Huo’s episode, each chef has only 30 minutes to create everything from scratch. Huo plans to use home as inspiration in her cooking.

“The reason I did it, was to bring attention to this area of the United States,” Huo said. “Because I think we are doing a lot of good work here, and people just think it’s a fly over area. We have really great farms here, and really great food. I thought it was my chance to go on a national stage to bring some attention to this area.”

The contestants get to keep the money, and Huo had planned to donate her winnings to the Community Table — even giving the local non-profit a shout out on the show. Unfortunately, Huo was eliminated in the final round. Still, congrats to her on a great competition!
