Son put up for adoption reunites Wisconsin birth parents

Marshfield (WQOW) – A Colorado man’s search for his birth parents set in motion a series of events he could never have imagined, according to an article in the New York Times.

It started in 2014 when Martin Schmidt and his wife were about to become first-time parents and he decided to track down his biological parents.

According to the Times, the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families put him in touch with his birth mother, Michele Newman, who was living in Hawaii.  She was in high school when she gave birth and had just broken up with the father, Dave Lindgren of Loyal.

After talking to her son, she decided to contact his father back in Wisconsin.  One thing led to another, and the couple eventually reunited, finally marrying August 4th near Marshfield.  And who performed the ceremony?  Their long-lost son, Martin Schmidt, who was ordained several years ago by the Church of the Latter Day Dude, an organization inspired by the movie “The Big Lebowski”.
