Trump to stop in Baltimore weeks after denigrating city

BALTIMORE (AP) — President Donald Trump will visit Baltimore less than two months after he derided the majority-black congressional district that includes the city as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” where “no human being would want to live.”

Trump’s planned visit Thursday will be limited to a hotel overlooking the city’s Inner Harbor, where he will deliver dinner remarks before Republican members of Congress gathered for an annual retreat.

A coalition of groups that includes Baltimore residents appalled by his attacks earlier this summer plan to protest his visit, while city officials hope he will see the city does not match the characterization in his tweets.

Sharon Black is an organizer with the Peoples Power Assembly, a group behind the protest. She says protesters are standing against racism and white supremacy.
