Ex-intern says she had 1992 fling with Indiana house speaker

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A woman alleges that when she was an Indiana legislative intern in 1992, she performed oral sex on a married Republican lawmaker who has since become the speaker of the Indiana House.

The former Democratic intern told The Indianapolis Star for a story published Wednesday that the sexual act with Brian Bosma was consensual, but that she felt pressured into it.

Bosma, who first became Indiana House speaker in 2004, issued a statement Wednesday calling the woman’s claims “unequivocally false.”

The newspaper reports that Bosma paid a law firm more than $40,000 in campaign funds this year in part to gather unflattering information about the former intern and that the woman’s family members say Bosma’s attorney threatened to reveal her name and unfavorable information about her if her account became public.

The attorney, Linda Pence, said in a written statement that she ran a professional investigation and “witnesses/sources were not threatened or harassed.”

The Associated Press could not reach the former intern for comment.
