Car chase in Tennessee ends with police fatally shooting man

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) — A man has been fatally shot by Tennessee police after a car chase in which the man crashed into an officer.

News outlets quote the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation as saying the man died Monday night in Oak Ridge. A TBI release says Oak Ridge police officer spotted a man with outstanding warrants earlier that evening driving a pickup truck. It says police attempted to pull him over, but he fled.

It says the chase ended in a parking lot when officers again attempted to stop the man, who then hit an officer with his truck. It says at least one officer then shot at the man, who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The police officer who was hit was treated and released.

Police did not release the names of the officer or suspect.
