_____

NATIONAL SUMMARY

Flooding rain from Florence will continue to ramp up as the

tropical storm moves slowly inland over the Carolinas today.

Feet of rain is forecast to fall. While wind gusts are

expected to decline slowly, winds will remain strong enough

to cause additional power outages as trees topple in soggy

ground. Heavy rain will reach the southern part of the

Appalachians. Much of the area from the Atlantic coast to

the Plains will remain in a very warm and humid air mass. As

a tropical disturbance moves inland, flooding downpours are

likely to spread from the Texas coast to central Texas and

the Big Bend area of the Rio Grande River. Much of the West

will be free of rain, except for wet weather in part of

western Washington, the northern Plains and the eastern

Great Lakes region.
